Maths Tutors in Manchester
A comprehensive city with a fully selective borough on its south-western edge - which is why two Manchester households can be preparing for completely different exams in the same term.
Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.
Manchester students sit GCSE Maths and A Level Maths, with AQA, Edexcel and OCR all in use across the city. Manchester City itself has no grammar schools, but Trafford immediately to the south west is fully selective and its entrance test draws candidates from across south Manchester, so eleven-plus preparation is common here even though the city has no selective schools of its own. Post-sixteen, a large share of Manchester students move to sixth form colleges such as Loreto and Xaverian rather than staying in a school sixth form. Math Wizard teaches across Greater Manchester in person and online.
The Trafford Effect
Trafford is one of the few fully selective authorities left in England, and it runs a two-test admissions process rather than one paper. Because the borough boundary runs through what is functionally continuous south Manchester, families in Chorlton, Didsbury and Whalley Range routinely enter children for tests in a borough they do not live in.
That produces a specific kind of maths tutoring: timed, technique-heavy, aimed at a paper with its own conventions, and finished by the autumn of Year 6. It has almost nothing in common with GCSE support, and it is worth being clear at the outset which of the two you are asking for.
Moving To a College Sixth Form at Sixteen
Manchester's post-sixteen maths teaching is concentrated in large colleges - Loreto, Xaverian, Manchester College among them. A student who was one of twenty-five in a GCSE class becomes one of several hundred maths students in an institution built for that scale.
Most cope. The ones who do not usually slip in the first term of Year 12, on algebraic fluency they were never quite secure on at GCSE, and it does not show up until a January assessment. That gap is the single most common reason a Manchester family gets in touch.

In Person Across Greater Manchester, or Online
In person. A tutor comes to the student's desk anywhere in Greater Manchester - the city, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Bury. Work is done on iPad and sent through afterwards, so nothing depends on the student's own note-taking.
Online, same price. Useful in a city where an afternoon trip across town can take longer than the lesson. Zoom or Google Meet, shared notes, identical rate.
Flexible timing. Sessions are an hour, day and time can move with 12 hours' notice, and there is no minimum commitment. Frequency usually rises in the run-up to exams and eases off over summer.
Who teaches your lessons
A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.
You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
