Maths Tutors in Aberdeen
A small secondary system in a city a long way from anywhere else - which makes Advanced Higher provision here genuinely fragile.
Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.
Aberdeen students sit National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Maths, set by Qualifications Scotland - the awarding body that took over from the SQA in 2026. The city has fourteen secondary schools, eleven of them council academies including Aberdeen Grammar, Cults Academy, Hazlehead Academy and Harlaw Academy. It also has the International School of Aberdeen, which offers the IB Diploma - so a small number of students in the city are studying IB Mathematics rather than Scottish qualifications. Aberdeen's distance from other Scottish cities limits the scope for shared teaching arrangements. Math Wizard teaches both Scottish qualifications and IB Maths in Aberdeen, in person and online.
Small Cohorts, Fragile Classes
Fourteen secondaries is a small system for a city of this size, and it produces Advanced Higher cohorts that can be very small indeed. In some subjects and some years, a class does not run at all because too few pupils opted for it.
When that happens the student has not failed at anything - the timetable has. It is one of the few situations where outside teaching is not a supplement to school but the only route to the qualification.
Two Systems in One City
Alongside the council academies, the International School of Aberdeen runs the IB Diploma. IB Mathematics comes in two routes - Analysis and Approaches, and Applications and Interpretation - each at Standard or Higher Level, and the assessment includes an internally marked exploration.
It is a different qualification with different demands from Higher Maths, and confusing the two is easy from the outside. If your child is on the IB route, say so at the start and the work is built for that syllabus.

National 5 Maths
How this course is assessed →Higher Maths
How this course is assessed →Advanced Higher Maths
How this course is assessed →Advanced Higher not running, or on the IB route?
Both are situations where outside teaching does real work rather than topping up. Tell us the course and the level and we will be honest about what is involved.

Reaching Lessons in Aberdeen
In person. A tutor comes to the student's desk across the city. Work is done on iPad and sent afterwards so nothing depends on notes taken at the end of a long day.
Online, same price. This matters more in Aberdeen than almost anywhere else on this site: online removes the constraint of who happens to live locally, which for a specialist subject at Advanced Higher level is the difference between having a choice and not.
No fixed commitment. Hour sessions, movable with 12 hours notice, no contract and no minimum package.
Who teaches your lessons
A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.
You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
