Maths Tutors in Glasgow

National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher - not GCSE, whatever a UK-wide tutoring site assumes when it sees a Scottish postcode.

Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.

Glasgow students sit National 5 Maths in S4, Higher Maths in S5 and Advanced Higher Maths in S6, all set by Qualifications Scotland, the body that replaced the SQA in 2026. Glasgow has around thirty council secondaries plus a substantial state-funded Catholic sector, Gaelic-medium provision at Glasgow Gaelic School, and Jordanhill School, which is funded directly by the Scottish Government rather than by the council. Glasgow Caledonian University hosts an Advanced Higher hub that teaches Advanced Higher subjects to pupils from schools across the city. Math Wizard teaches Scottish qualifications in Glasgow, in person and online.

A Different Timetable, Not Just Different Names

The Scottish system is not the English one with the labels swapped. Courses are one year long, presentation levels are decided inside the school, and a student can be presented at National 5 in S4 and Higher in S5 with almost no gap for consolidation between them.

That compression is the defining feature of Scottish maths tutoring. There is very little slack in the calendar, so a term lost in S5 is genuinely difficult to recover before the Higher exam rather than merely inconvenient.

Advanced Higher and the City Hub

Advanced Higher classes are small by nature, and not every school can run every subject every year. Glasgow's response has been a hub arrangement at Glasgow Caledonian University, where pupils from across the city are taught Advanced Higher subjects together.

It is a good solution, and it still means travelling to an unfamiliar setting for a demanding course with a heavy independent-study element. Advanced Higher Maths is the point at which most Glasgow students first meet mathematics that will not yield to memorising method.

What Glasgow Students Are Actually Sitting

Higher exam in May and the prelim did not go well?

The Scottish calendar leaves little room, so it is worth being direct about what is fixable in the time available. Tell us the level and the prelim result - the first lesson is half price.

Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.

In Person Across Glasgow, or Online

In person. A tutor comes to the student's own desk across the city. Everything is worked on iPad and sent afterwards, which matters more than usual on a one-year course where notes are the revision material.

Online, same price. Zoom or Google Meet with shared notes. In a Glasgow winter, an online slot is a slot that actually happens.

Movable timing. Hour sessions, rearrangeable with 12 hours notice, no contract. Frequency typically rises between the prelims and the national exam diet.

Who teaches your lessons

A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.

You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
