Maths Tutors in Leeds

A city where a lot of students change institution at sixteen, right at the point A Level maths stops resembling GCSE.

Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.

Leeds students sit GCSE Maths and A Level Maths, with AQA, Edexcel and OCR all in use across the city's roughly forty secondary schools. Leeds is comprehensive - it has no state grammar schools - but a significant share of its post-sixteen maths teaching happens in sixth form colleges rather than school sixth forms, which means many students meet A Level maths in a new institution with a much larger cohort. Math Wizard teaches across Leeds and West Yorkshire in person and online.

The Year 12 Cliff

The step from GCSE to A Level maths is the steepest in the English curriculum, and it is steeper again for a student who has also changed buildings, teachers and peer group in the same September. Leeds sees a lot of that combination.

What usually goes wrong is not the new content. It is that GCSE algebra was memorised well enough to score, but not fluent enough to be used as a tool while thinking about something harder. That deficit is invisible in August and obvious by December.

Forty Schools, Three Boards, No Single Answer

With around forty secondaries under one authority, Leeds has no house exam board. Two students in the same class at eighteen may have sat different GCSE specifications two years earlier, with different formula sheets and different paper structures.

None of that changes the mathematics, but it changes the exam technique - and exam technique is where most of the easily recoverable marks are. Lessons are built around the board a student is actually entered for.

What Leeds Students Are Actually Sitting

Year 12 maths going backwards since September?

It is the most common call we get from Leeds, and the earlier it is caught the less there is to unpick. The first lesson is half price and works out exactly where the marks are going.

Trial lessons are 50% off the normal rate.

Lessons Across Leeds and West Yorkshire

In person. A tutor comes to the student's own desk in Leeds and across West Yorkshire. Everything is worked on iPad and sent through after the session.

Online, same price. Zoom or Google Meet with shared notes. For a Year 13 juggling revision and part-time work, online often survives a busy week when a travelling appointment would not.

Movable sessions. An hour at a time, rearrangeable with 12 hours notice, no contract and no minimum block to buy up front.

Who teaches your lessons

A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.

You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
