Belfast students sit CCEA qualifications. Northern Ireland retains academic selection at eleven, and entry to grammar schools now runs through a single standardised assessment administered by SEAG, replacing the earlier arrangement in which competing tests were used. Belfast schools are also divided into controlled, maintained and integrated sectors, a structure with no English equivalent, and CCEA GCSEs are graded A* to G including a C* rather than on the 9 to 1 scale used in England. The Transfer Test Is Its Own Kind of Maths
Preparation for the SEAG assessment is not primary maths revision. It is timed problem-solving under pressure, on question types that a Year 6 classroom has no particular reason to cover, taken at an age when most children have never sat a formal exam.
It is also short. The work has a clear end point in the autumn, and it should not be allowed to expand into a two-year project. What matters most is fluency with number and confidence with unfamiliar question formats.
CCEA Grades Do Not Translate
Because CCEA grades A* to G with an additional C*, a Northern Irish GCSE result cannot be read directly against an English 9 to 1 grade, and comparison tables are approximate at best.
This matters when a family is looking at English universities or moving across, and it matters for revision material too: CCEA papers are the ones to practise on, whatever a UK-wide revision website suggests.

Lessons Across Belfast, In Person or Online
In person. A tutor comes to the student's own desk across Belfast. Everything is worked on iPad and sent afterwards, which for a Year 6 sitting a transfer test gives a parent something concrete to see.
Online, same price. Zoom or Google Meet with shared notes, at the identical rate. It also widens the choice of tutor beyond whoever is nearby.
Nothing fixed. Hour sessions, rearrangeable with 12 hours notice, no contract and no minimum number of lessons.
Who teaches your lessons
A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.
You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
