What Math Wizard Is
The thing you call when a student is stuck – and nothing else. Maths only, every UK exam system, and a library of free worksheets to prove it before you spend anything.
Math Wizard is a UK maths tutoring service that teaches one subject only – maths – across every exam system in the country: GCSE and A Level in England and Wales, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher in Scotland, and CCEA in Northern Ireland. Lessons are taught in person in 17 cities or online anywhere in the UK, at £60–£80 per hour one to one and £40 per student in small groups, with the first lesson half price and no contract.
One subject, on purpose
Most tutoring companies will find you someone for eleven subjects. That works if what a student needs is company while they get through their homework. It stops working the moment a student is losing marks for a reason nobody has identified yet.
Every Math Wizard tutor teaches maths and no other subject. Fourteen years of teaching it across the British, IB and American curricula means the problem in front of us is usually one we have seen before – and it is usually not the one the student thinks they have.
A student who cannot factorise is often really a student who never got comfortable with negative numbers. A student stuck on integration by parts is frequently a student who cannot differentiate quickly enough to see the pattern. The visible problem is almost never the actual one, and finding the real one is the whole job.
Every UK exam system, not just the English ones
The UK does not have one maths curriculum. Scotland sits National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher with Qualifications Scotland. Northern Ireland sits CCEA, graded A* to G including a C* that exists nowhere else in the country. Wales sits WJEC Eduqas. England has AQA, Edexcel and OCR, and even they arrange their papers differently from one another.
A national tutoring service that quietly teaches the English syllabus to everybody is wrong for about a fifth of the country. Each of the seventeen city pages here shows the qualifications actually sat in that place, because it genuinely differs.
The worksheets are the proof
Every worksheet, practice question and worked solution on this site is original – written to each specification rather than lifted from an exam board’s papers – and free, with no account and no email address required.
That is not generosity, it is the method. A lesson is worth far more when the practice between lessons aims at the exact gap the lesson found, and that only works when we control the material.
It is also the fairest way to judge the teaching before spending anything at all. Open a worksheet, read a worked solution, and see whether it explains things the way your child needs them explained.
What we will not do
Hide the price. It is on the website, next to what everyone else charges, including the bits where they are cheaper.
Invent reviews. Math Wizard is new in the UK and there are no testimonials on this site yet, because we would rather show none than borrow someone else’s.
Lock you in. No contract, no minimum package, no registration fee. The first lesson is half price and there is no obligation to book a second.
Take a student we cannot help. If the first lesson shows the problem is something else – a gap two years further back, or something that is not really about maths at all – we will say so.
Who teaches your lessons
A maths specialist – someone who teaches maths and no other subject, works from the same worksheets you can read on this site, and follows the same method with every student.
You are told exactly who your tutor is before the first lesson, never after. That lesson is half price, with no contract, so if the match is not right you have lost one half-price hour and nothing else.
